History of LOngnor

Longnor is steeped in history. It is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, as Longenalre and it is believed that there was a settlement here as early as 700AD.

Longnor was a popular market town in the 18th and 19th centuries and this is evidenced by the original market sign that can be found in the quaint, cobbled village square. The sign displays the fees for both market sellers and buyers.

The village’s church, St Bartholomew, was founded in the 13th Century. Although there are no remains of the original church, the present church building still dates back to 1781.
